Member Spotlight: Kimberly Virelli-Fulmer


Choosing our member spotlight gets more challenging with each passing month. Witnessing the dedication and effort you all bring when stepping through our doors makes singling out just one member a tough task. Let’s shine a light on Kim,  another member who has been here since day one.  Kim's infectious smile and positive attitude light up the room every time she joins a class, giving her all without fail. Lately, we've been blown away by her progress, especially in the way she's been upping her game with heavier weights – a testament to her unwavering commitment to improving herself in the gym. We asked Kim a few questions so you could learn a little more about her.


What brought you to Ola Kai? 

My desire to get ”back in shape” after a career change that led me to sitting at a desk was what led me to Ola Kai. I’ve always been a fan of classes. 


What is your favorite thing about Brigantine?

Brigantine has been my home for 40 years, my favorite thing is the small community feel.


How do you feel like the type of training you do at Ola Kai helps you in your  personal life?

The selection of classes at Ola Kai fits so well into my schedule. I can attend early in the morning, right after work, or early evening. It really helps me be consistent. 


What physical benefits are you seeing (sleep, work, eating, mental, etc).

The physical benefit of strength training has helped  improve my sleep, I am less anxious, I concentrate on protein first to feed my muscles and I have resolved a knee issue by using modified exercises. 


What are some of the biggest benefits you have felt since you started at Ola Kai?

The biggest benefit of Ola Kai is the sense of community. We are all different ages and physical abilities, we all achieve our own goals in the same class. Encouragement and modifications allow everyone to participate fully and fosters camaraderie. 


What class(es) do you enjoy the most?

My favorite classes are circuit training, the more equipment we use, the more I like it!


What’s one thing you’ve achieved since becoming a member? 

Since July I have built back the strength I lost over the last few years. 


What is one fitness goal you have in the coming year?  

My fitness goal this year is to continue to strengthen my legs and improve my endurance. 


What are some of your favorite things to do on the island?

I love to be outside in Brigantine! My favorite things are bike riding,the polar bear plunge, the beach and the farmers market.
